On 26 June 2019, BitTorrent official handle tweeted regarding their early access group test for BitTorrentSpeed.
The official tweet from BitTorrent Inc, says
Did you receive our invitation for the last Early Access Group test before we launch #BitTorrentSpeed?! Check your emails now! Those who participate in the test will be rewarded with $BTT! #BTT— BitTorrent Inc. (@BitTorrent) June 26, 2019
BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file transfer protocol for sharing large amounts of data’s over the internet, in which each part of a file downloaded by a user is transferred to other users. On BitTorrent, every user is defined as a peer and every peer can seed & leech the file. All these activities are managed by BitTorrent client software which can be downloaded and installed by anyone around the globe.
To understand BitTorrentSpeed, one should know what is seeding on BitTorrent. A seeder is another BitTorrent user who has already downloaded the file and is ready to share the same file on the network.
BitTorrent was one of the first decentralized networks for downloading files. The torrent network runs on seeding, this helps the community to let each and every user earn their required data and grow accordingly.
According to the particular time, a seeder has contributed, he/she gets an extra bandwidth as a reward. With the extra bandwidth gained, additional downloading speed can be unlocked from the BitTorrent network.
Moving on to BitTorrentSpeed
BitTorrentSpeed is an update on BitTorrent client software due to this exclusive upgrade, seeders can now earn BTT tokens for seeding instead of the traditional bandwidth they earned.
In the present situation, BitTorrentSpeed is only available to registered participants who are eligible for the upgrade. These participants can download the updated client through the exclusive link which they received through BitTorrent’s email.
The below image is a snippet of the updated client software of BitTorrent.
The use case of BitTorrentSpeed is to enhance the BitTorrent protocol for all users and all torrent clients. BTT tokens can be traded in exchange for seeders contribution to the BitTorrent network.
Additionally, the valuable point to be noted is BTT tokens can be stored in the inbuilt wallet and can be exchanged for Tron (TRX) tokens through crypto exchanges if needed or can be used to masquerade the queue.
As of now, BitTorrentSpeed is not available to the public and the official release date is not yet announced. But the clue from Justin Sun, the Co-founder of Tron, shows that the update will be implemented in the second quarter of 2019.
